Correctional Services Assistant Consultant – 70035432

 

This advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Central Office in the Office of Admissions and Release.

 

Salary: $39,321.10 Annual Rate

 

SALARY WILL BE DETERMINED IN ACCORDANCE WITH CURRENT PAY POLICY.

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Independently tracks all inmates being released to a detainer within specified times of release by calculating the earliest release date. Make decisions as to pick-up dates and times as outlined in procedure. Coordinates and authorize all detainer pick-ups on inmates being released from all institutions, including private facilities. Coordinates transportation and pickup arrangements with all local, state, other state and federal law enforcement agencies for inmates being released with pending sentences or charges in other jurisdictions, to include courtesy prisoner to plane airport exchanges. Requests and verifies credentials of all transporting agents assuming custody of inmates for detainer pickups. Notifies institutions of pick-up arrangements and authorizes final authority for detainer pickups.
  • Requests, collects, and distributes waivers of extradition for inmates who are wanted by out of state agencies.
  • Responsible for reviewing / researching offender data to make determinations to place, cancel or withdraw active warrants requested by law enforcement agencies.
  • Contacts law enforcement agencies and courts to clarify jail holds, and court ordered programs.
  • Researches and follows up with law enforcement agencies on all two-party detainers received for possible detainer placement.
  • Responds to routine telephonic and written inquiries from law enforcement, inmate families and Department field staff regarding the release dates of inmates and/or the status of outstanding warrants, canceled detainers and/or detainer pick-up arrangements.
  • Reviews and researches sentencing data to ensure active detainer(s) are valid. Contacts state attorneys, sheriff's offices, police departments or federal officials regarding technical or legal discrepancies in warrant/detainer document(s).
  • Reviews, analyzes and interprets sentencing paperwork for consecutive county jail or federal sentences. Manually calculates release dates on detainers placed by law enforcement agencies for county jail sentences. Maintains suspense log to ensure cancellation of detainers when county jail sentences reach their expiration of sentence date.
  • Serves as a representative for the Bureau of Admission and Release, Release Management Unit during EOG activations.
  • Assists with the determination of eligibility for Interstate Agreement on Detainers (IAD) and assists with processing IAD paperwork.
  • When needed, assists the Correctional Program Administrator in placement and withdrawal of Immigration detainers. and provides assistance in the pickup arrangements for inmates being released into Immigration & Customs Enforcement custody. Assists with the monitoring and coordination of the Executive Office of Immigration Review exclusion or deportation hearings for foreign born inmates who have been declared criminal aliens. Also assists with the determination of criminal alien inmate immigration status.
  • Assists with special projects, as needed.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Three (3) years of experience in Classification, Sentence Structure or Releases.
  • Experience in detainers, warrants or court orders.
  • Data entry experience.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in reading and interpreting criminal histories and/or warrants.
  • Experience communicating with law enforcement.
  • Experience in using the Offender Based Information System (OBIS) database.
