Position Description:

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Wildlife Diversity Conservation Section (WDC) is seeking an organized, motivated individual to be the lead of the Conservation Grants and Budget management unit. The incumbent of this position will work directly with the Section Leader and other key members of the Section to oversee Florida’s State Wildlife Grants and traditional Section 6 programs, and assist with management of Section, non-traditional Section 6, and NFWF budgets and associated projects. This includes coordinating with USFWS Federal Aid, writing grant proposals and applications, coordinating the grant development and review process and compliance, monitoring grant activities including progress and budgets, writing program and project reports, ensuring successful completion and closure of grant projects, providing technical assistance to grantees, and maintaining and controlling access to historical grant files and resources for auditing purposes.  

This position supervises and coordinates work assignments for two FTE positions and one OPS position, all of which are Government Operations Consultant II positions.

Duties:

  • Monitors and tracks federal project spending to ensure projects are in compliance with USFWS guidelines.
  • Reviews and approves expenditure grant cost sheets on a monthly basis for reimbursement.
  • Reviews reports and statistical data as basis for action and for reporting as required by management.
  • Responsible for planning, supervising, and administering work of subordinates.
  • Responsible for providing technical assistance to operations and program staff related to grants and budget management. 
  • Responsible for keeping informed of current US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) fiscal policies and compliance guidelines.
  • Conducts activities for implementation and evaluation of the State Wildlife Action Plan, Imperiled Species Management Plan, statewide monitoring, and regional activities that are consistent with the priorities of the Section/Division.
  • Participate in immediate resolution for short-term and unexpected problems as they arise; identify, plan for, and implement solutions to long-term and high-priority conservation issues associated with the Section.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

The successful candidate will have excellent organizational, critical thinking, application assessment, and communication skills.

  • Knowledge of grant management
  • State of Florida budget tracking systems
  • Knowledge of Excel, formulas, and pivot charts functionality to use in data analysis, proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to work independently and make decisions with minimal supervision
  • Ability to determine work priorities and ensure proper completion of work assignments
  • Ability to organize data into logical formats for presentation in reports, documents, and other written materials
  • Excellent communication and people skills.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills.
