The Work You Will Do:

This posting is for a Government Operations Consultant I position located at the Department of Environmental Protection’s Southeast District Office located in West Palm Beach Florida.  This position will assist in the daily functions of the Business Planning Program.

Where You Will Work:

This position is located in West Palm Beach Florida. West Palm Beach is Palm Beach County's capital city and its cultural center. Its active downtown stretches from a scenic pier on the Lake Worth Lagoon to a waterfront Great Lawn, which hosts a weekly green market, outdoor concerts and this season a 35-foot-tall holiday sandcastle.  Dozens of local beaches provide easy access to both the Atlantic Ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway.  Several State Parks as well as National Parks are in the immediate area as well.

Your Specific Responsibilities:

Assists the Operations Review Specialist with duties pertaining to human resource matters including new hires, terminations, etc. and other human resources related work duties. Assists applicants during application process; assists with new employee orientation; assists with dialog in employer/employee relations; disseminates and explains benefits and retirement information to employees; interprets and informs supervisors and employees of personnel procedures, rules, policies, directives, rights, obligations and benefits.

 Assists the Southeast District's Safety Coordinator for organizing routine safety committee meetings; office and vehicle safety analyses; arranging, providing, completing, and tracking of Tallahassee required safety-related training; maintaining, assisting and reporting of the annual review of the programs' Job Safety Analyses. Assists with the District's first Aid Kit and all other office supplies.

Assists with expense budget and PALMS implementation, as well as district travel, as needed.

Serves on the Business Planning team, performing functions for district phone and guest reception. Works with Business Planning Team members to ensure calls are received and routed appropriately. Assists in monitoring district’s outgoing electronic mailbox to ensure returned delivery items are properly routed and in a timely manner.  Assists and backs up other Business Planning team members on an as-needed basis.

Special projects: Special projects may be related to general team projects, specific time-oriented tasks or general duties as they relate to the Business Planning and overall district needs, i.e. Clearinghouse Project oversight, etc.. Responsible for proper use and care of state-owned property and equipment assigned to this position.  Attends workshops and seminars when requested.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of administrative principles and practices,
  • Knowledge of office procedures,
  • Knowledge of methods of data collection and principles
  • Knowledge of operation of personal computer, including Microsoft Office Package (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.),
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply DEP rules, regulations, policies and procedures. 
  • Skilled in effective verbal and written communication
  • Ability to utilize problem-solving and critical thinking techniques,
  • Ability to work independently,
  • Ability to plan, organize, prioritize and coordinate work assignments,
  • Ability to communicate effectively and in writing
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with others.

 

Required Qualifications:  

  • Maintain a valid driver license

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college; or any combination of post-secondary education or verifiable related experience, as described above, for a total of 4 years, (Preferred)

 

BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT: This position is designated as a Position of Special Trust in accordance with DEP-422 (Positions of Special Trust or Responsibility).
