The Work You Will Do:

This posting is for a Government Operations Consultant I position located at the Department of Environmental Protection’s Southeast District Office located in West Palm Beach Florida. This position will assist in the daily functions of the Business Planning Program.

Where You Will Work:

This position is located in West Palm Beach Florida. West Palm Beach is Palm Beach County's capital city and its cultural center. Its active downtown stretches from a scenic pier on the Lake Worth Lagoon to a waterfront Great Lawn, which hosts a weekly green market, outdoor concerts and this season a 35-foot-tall holiday sandcastle. Dozens of local beaches provide easy access to both the Atlantic Ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway. Several State Parks as well as National Parks are in the immediate area as well.

Your Specific Responsibilities:

Will conduct organizational studies and evaluations on office procedures providing technical assistance and developing procedures to assist the Southeast District Office to operate more efficiently and effectively.


Assist the District's Safety Coordinator for organizing routine safety committee meetings; office and vehicle safety analyses; arranging, providing, completing, and tracking of Tallahassee required safety-related training; maintaining, assisting and reporting of the annual review of the programs' Job Safety Analyses. Maintains the District's first Aid Kit and its supplies. Serves as District's representative for SFWMD Safety Committee activities. Responsible for coordinating and overseeing the District's Annual Health and Safety fair, as directed. Coordinates and monitors district driver license verifications quarterly.


Assist with District Fleet activities including vehicle procurement and disposal, requests for reservations, general use, preventative and other maintenance and monthly reporting. Coordinates service activities and responds to unanticipated maintenance issues in a timely manner. Works with other Business Planning team members in training them on same.


Assists and/or serves as backup with the Tallahassee training office to request and schedule both required and beneficial training for the Southeast District staff. Participates on training and personnel related committees; develops and arranges for training sessions to foster safety and professional development; and assists with the development of the District's Employee Development Plan and related activities.


Assists the Program Administrator with District budget and purchasing activities including, but not limited to processing of all accounts payables received in district office; coordinating, entering, tracking and processing of District requisitions in MyFloridaMarketPlace (MFMP); and procuring goods and services outside of MFMP, as allowed by state and/or DEP policy and as directed.


Assists with scheduling room reservations; and preparing and tracking travel packages for district staff. Serves on the Business Planning team, performing functions for district phone and guest reception. Works with Business Planning Team members to ensure calls are received and routed appropriately and ensures staffing coverage for same. Ensures guests are greeted and assisted accordingly.


Assists team on special projects, as assigned. Special projects may be related to general team projects, specific time-oriented tasks or general duties as they relate to the Business Planning overall district needs. Responsible for proper use and care of state-owned property and equipment assigned to this position. Attends workshops and seminars when requested.


Performs other related duties as required.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of administrative principles and practices, office procedures, methods of data collection and principles and techniques of effective verbal and written communication and knowledge of operation of personal computer.
  • Ability to collect and analyze data relating to accounting, personnel, purchasing or report writing, prepare correspondence and administrative reports, understand and apply DEP rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques, work independently, ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments, communicate effectively and in writing using Department’s computer equipment and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

  • Maintain a valid driver license
