JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

This is a Health Support Specialist (HSS) position in the School Health Program working under the supervision of the Senior Community Health Nurse and/or the Community Health Nursing Supervisor.

 

Participates in Basic Health Screenings (i.e., vision, hearing, and growth and development) to Orange County Public Schools (OCPS) students throughout the school year and during community health outreach events as needed. Enters screening results gathered and services provided into the Health Management System (HMS) upon delivery. Ensures data collected is under the correct code. Ensures all basic health screening services are entered timely into HMS. Input of data into HMS is on-going.

 

Collects data from OCPS clinic staff periodically throughout the school year to assure delivery of Basic Health Screening results. Enters data gathered and services provided into the Health Management System (HMS) upon delivery. Ensures data collected is under the correct code according to the School Health Coding Manual. Ensures all basic health screening services are coded timely into HMS. Maintains, organizes, and coordinates data transfer between DOH-Orange School Health Program and Orange County Public Schools (OCPS). Performs various clerical and data management functions in the School Health Program. Knowledgeable of data collection and transfer methods. Enters and certifies daily activities in Employee Activity Record (EARS).

 

Participates in community outreach vaccination events through-out the year. Knowledgeable of Immunization Guidelines for schools. Ensures services provided are entered into HMS upon delivery. Ensures all services, record reviews and immunization follow up actions are coded correctly and timely into HMS. The incumbent provides support as needed at outreach/awareness and incident response events within the community to include mass immunization, emergency response activities, and community health engagements. Support may be required outside of normal business hours to accommodate community needs during evening and weekends hours.

 

Demonstrates good communication skills, while maintaining effective working relations and good rapport with DOH-Orange staff and OCPS representatives. Assigned duties require independent judgement, as well as the ability to multi-task, plan, organize and coordinate work efforts. Assigned duties require the ability to prioritize work, finish assignments, and review work for accuracy and quality.

 

Attends all meetings, mandatory trainings, and conferences as required. Ensures adheres to established policies and protocols. Actively participates in training and support of new-hire staff in the School Health Program.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 1 year or more years’ experience working as an employee for the DOH-Orange County.
  • A certification as a CNA, CMA, or min. 1 year community health experience.
  • A valid FL driver’s license or state identification card OR a valid driver’s license from another state (you will be required to get a FL driver license within 30 days of hire).
  • Must travel in the field at various public and private schools throughout Orange County.  In absence of a county vehicle, must have access to personal transportation.
  • Willing to work before, during, and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. This may include working in a special needs or Red Cross shelter, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural. Emergency duties may also include in-state and/or out-of-state deployment.
