Description

Salary is Non-Negotiable. The successful candidate will be hired at the minimum salary.

 

The Dependency Drug Court Specialist (DDCS) serves as a liaison between the court, the treatment providers and the program participants. The individual in this position is responsible for referrals to treatment services, alcohol and substance abuse monitoring, treatment progress monitoring, reporting of compliance with case plan tasks and making recommendations to the court. This person will participate in the development of the Department of Children and Families Case Plan, which states the requirements for successful completion of the Dependency Drug Court program. The DDCS relays the participant’s progress to the court through both verbal and written reports. Work is closely monitored by the Dependency Drug Court Coordinator for the achievement of performance standards, inclusive of attaining desired results, compliance with timelines, and the accomplishment of assigned tasks in accordance with established Dependency Drug Court “best practice” policies and procedures.

This position is eligible for a hybrid remote work/onsite schedule after a 90-day period, as outlined by existing Circuit policies and procedures.

 

Responsibilities

  • Provides intensive case management services to program participants.
  • Reviews participant files upon assignment, to include dependency petition, initial assessment screens and all available documentation to assess participant needs and develop a case plan.
  • Meets with participants regularly to establish rapport, provides intervention as needed and performs ongoing needs assessment.
  • Conducts referrals for participants as indicated and closely monitors the compliance with court ordered directives, case plan tasks, services and referrals.
  • Maintains ongoing contact with service providers on a weekly basis to ensure appropriate and required treatment, care and services are being rendered to participants.
  • Collaborates with the child welfare agency assigned to each case in an effort to strengthen the family and promote reunification.
  • Explore resources in the community to enhance the treatment services for the family. 
  • Requests status reports in a timely manner from treatment providers for court hearings and provides updates regarding status of court appearance.
  • Provides written and verbal reports on participant’s progress and compliance by attending court hearings.
  • Provides recommendations at court hearings and staffings, and proposes incentives and sanctions as deemed appropriate.
  • Distributes applicable information to the court or other agencies as needed in a timely manner.
  • Maintains up-to-date case and participant documentation and records.
  • Inputs and retrieves data to the Florida Drug Court Case Management system as needed.
  • Participates in staffings to discuss case status with court team and/or treatment team members.
  • Assists and ensures appropriate discharge planning with treatment providers to safeguard continuity of care.
  • Utilizes motivational interviewing techniques, crisis intervention, and other strength-based interventions in order to assist and motivate participants and to promote change.
  • Helps participants identify and develop a support system and encourages and facilitates family and community involvement and support, utilizing Multi-Dimensional Family Therapy approaches. 
  • Maintains knowledge of community resources to assist participants in identifying and accessing relevant community resources.
  • Identifies community resource service gaps and links participants to services to avoid gaps.
  • Attends in-services, educational training, seminars and conferences as necessary and when available.
  • Participates in supervision sessions with program coordinator.
  • Performs other related tasks and duties as required and assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work or related fields.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience working with individuals who suffer from substance use disorders and/or mental health, providing case management and/or clinical services to this specific population.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):

 

  • Knowledge of human behavior.
  • Knowledge of substance abuse, recovery, and the dynamics.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with substance abuse agencies and their requirements.
  • Knowledge of treatment related techniques, casework principles, mental health related issues and community resources.
  • Knowledge of the dependency court system.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite software programs to include Microsoft Word and Excel, and database applications.
  • Ability to be well organized.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others, including judges, judicial staff, supervisor, coworkers and service providers.
  • Ability to identify the needs of the participants.
  • Ability to maintain accurate case documentation and prepare well written and accurate reports for the court.
  • Ability to perform tasks timely and accurately.
  • Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.

 

 

Working Conditions:

  • Moderate noise; business office setting.

 

Physical Demands:

  • Work involves a significant amount of standing, walking, sitting, talking, listening, and reaching with hands and arms. Must be able to transfer up to 10 pounds.
