Summary:
This announcement will be used to fill the current vacancy at our Headquarters in Boise, Idaho, in the Data Innovations Group (DIG). As a Principal Research Analyst for IDOC, the selected candidate will work from the Central Office, taking a role in planning, development, implementation and evaluating complex research projects, focusing on strategic analytics to effectively communicate narratives through data, dashboards, and planning tools. It is essential for the incumbent to take a proactive approach in exploring innovative ways to leverage existing data to advance agency initiatives. We seek a strategic thinker adept at identifying emerging trends and patterns that can inform data-driven decision-making. Additionally, the Principal Research Analyst will be able to communicate findings through charts, graphs, descriptive statistics, and other means tailored to various audience types. Furthermore, the incumbent will support the development, maintenance, and enhancement of the reporting tools to respond accurately and timely to organizational, federal, legislative, and grant funding requests for information.
Responsibilities:
- Statistical Analysis & Interpretation: Perform statistical analysis, including multivariate analysis, to interpret trends, develop conclusions, and summarize results using tools such as SPSS.
- Statistical Analysis & Interpretation: Develop predictive models and forecasting methods to support population management.
- Data Development & Reporting: Utilizing data extraction tools such as: SQL for database querying, PowerBI and Tableau for creating internal and external reports and data visualizations.
- Data Development & Reporting: Generate, compile, and submit reports, ensuring accuracy for all federal, state and legislatively mandated reporting.
- Communication & Stakeholder Engagement: Compile and disseminate research results and data analyses to various users, making oral presentations of findings to stakeholders.
- Communication & Stakeholder Engagement: Communicate results of data extractions and internal analyses as needed, responding to data requests from internal and external clients.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Experience that demonstrates considerable knowledge of modeling and trend analysis and simulation techniques. Typically gained by completion of at least two semesters of college level statistics in modeling, trend analysis and simulation techniques, AND at least two years of relevant practical experience and training in those areas OR at least three years of relevant practical experience and training in those areas OR Experience or a combination of coursework and experience that represents the knowledge level above.
- Experience planning, developing, and implementing complex research and statistical projects and presenting the results. Typically gained by at least one year of work experience planning, developing, and implementing complex research and statistical projects, and presenting the results. Experience should include independently identifying or defining the scope of the project; analyzing the problem requiring research and statistical analysis; developing the research project; and implementing and presenting the research results.
- Experience using and interpreting output of a statistical analysis software package. Typically gained by at least one year of experience using and interpreting statistical output from a statistical analysis software package (e.g. SAS, SPSS, STATA, Number Cruncher, Excel, Minitab, etc.).
Desirable Qualifications:
- Experience that demonstrates considerable knowledge of SQL to efficiently query large complex data sets
- Experience building dashboards using both PowerBI and Tableau
- Experience with research and report writing providing guidance on agency performance measures, or on operational, compliance or internal control systems and processes
- Experience in criminal justice field
- Strong communication skills
