Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Corrections is looking for a highly motivated Account Technician I. The ideal candidate would be self-motivated, task orientated, and an organized individual with attention to detail. Essential Functions

  • Prepares and audits complex financial documents, in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and the Comptroller's Statewide Accounting Management System.
  • Maintains center's employee time and attendance records.
  • Prepares Payroll Time Report and manually calculates and checks each employees bi-monthly attendance, roll call, shift differential, overtime, temporary assignment, paid lunches, holidays and any other information affecting the employee's pay and submits to payroll semi-monthly.
  • Provides assistance to the facility cashier by receiving and receipting incoming monies for all funds.
  • Provides assistance to other Business Office accounting staff in the performance of duties.
  • Performs other duties as required and assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of two (2) years of college AND completion of an approved training course OR three (3) years of related clerical bookkeeping experience.
  • Qualifying state employees in the employee Upward Mobility Program may complete combinations of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the stated requirements for this classification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefers at least two (2) years of work experience with state or non-state accounting procedures.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of work experience in general ledger accounting practices.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of work experience inputting and posting information to computerized accounting systems.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of work experience identifying errors and discrepancies in an accounting system.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of work experience with office methods and procedures.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of work experience creating and maintaining reports.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of work experience meeting deadlines.

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of position held, is prohibited.
