Position Overview

The Regional Land Manager coordinates and supervises the development, operation, rehabilitation and maintenance of Land Management sites within Region IV. Oversees budget and spending within the regions, directs the operation of outdoor recreation and resource protection programs on public lands. The ideal candidate will be able to utilize their supervisory experience, problem solving skills, and public speaking skills. Essential Function

  • Subject to administrative approval, plans, directs, coordinates and supervises the development, operation, rehabilitation and maintenance of Land Management sites such as state parks, recreation areas, conservation areas, fish and wildlife areas, trails, forests and nature preserves within Region IV
  • Directs the operation of outdoor recreation and resource protection programs on public lands
  • Serves as full-line supervisor
  • Manages the Region’s fiscal activities
  • Evaluates and coordinates facility improvements
  • Serves as Department liaison with various companies and groups
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college with coursework in natural resources management, parks and recreation, natural sciences or agriculture.
  • Requires prior experience equivalent to four years of progressively responsible administrative experience in a public or business organization

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of thorough knowledge of public and business administration, principles, and practices
  • Two (2) years of thorough knowledge of agency programs and service objectives, activities, and operational systems
  • Two (2) years of thorough knowledge of labor and employment development
  • Two (2) years of extensive knowledge of agency policies and procedures
  • Two (2) years of experience in developing and managing a major agency program
  • Two (2) years of experience in analyzing administrative programs and adopting an effective course of action
  • Two (2) years of experience developing, installing, and evaluating new and revised methods, procedures, and performance standards
  • Two (2) years of experience in exercising judgment and discretion in developing, implementing, and interpreting departmental policies and procedures
  • Two (2) years of experience in estimating and budgeting for future needs and cost of personnel, space, equipment, supplies, and services
  • Two (2) years of experience in undertaking economic analysis
  • Two (2) years of experience in project management/certification

Charged with preserving, protecting and promoting Illinois’ natural and cultural resources, Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) employees oversee water, wildlife, wetlands and oil wells, parks, historic sites – and everything in between. Office of Land Management

The Office of Land Management (OLM) oversees nearly 400 individual parcels of land and institutes a wide variety of programs and activities advocating outdoor recreation through sustainable use, conservation, and preservation. The Historic Sites Division of the Office of Land Management oversees 57 Historic Sites, Monuments, and Memorials. OLM facilitates activities from small group interpretive programming at Historical Sites, to hiking, hunting, fishing, boating, and camping.
