Are you looking for some experience in Claims Management? If so, we might have the perfect role for you! The Iowa Department of Transportation is seeking multiple Claims Management student interns to join our team.
What You’ll Do
Duration: Student will work full-time (up to 40 hours/week) during the summer semester. Part-time during fall and spring semesters (up to 20-hours per week) options are available.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
Currently enrolled students in a degree program at an accredited educational institution.

What You’ll Do
- Data entry and navigation in Claims Management and other systems
- Communicate with insurance companies seeking information and to obtain claim number
- Review Investigating Officer’s Reports to determine at-fault parties for billing purposes
- Match Memorandum Cost Reports to Accident Reports
- Communicate with Law Enforcement agencies to obtain an officer’s report, photos, or other details
- Review pending unbilled claims and write letters or e-mails to follow-up on repair costs to state property
- Process receipts for payments made to DOT from billings
- Investigate and gather information requested by County Attorneys and respond accordingly
- Assist in processing delinquent notices on past-due bills
- Entering Memorandum Cost Reports and Tort Claims into Claims Control System
- General office tasks.
- Ability to receive instruction, contribute ideas, and work effectively in a team environment
- Telephone/Communication/interpersonal skills
- Computer navigation skills (Microsoft Office and other applications), ability to analyze and assess data, data entry, spreadsheet skills
- Office technology: Fax, Scan, Printing, Copying
- Basic math skills, ability to read and comprehend
