Job Description
Primary Function:
In collaboration with Iowa Educational Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired (IESBVI) teachers and with AEA and LEA staff, the STEM Consultant provides leadership, consultation, professional development, technical assistance and support in the broad area of STEM. This includes areas such as effective instructional strategies, modeling and coaching for effective instruction, the selection of materials and ongoing consultation in STEM related content areas for students who are blind or visually impaired. Support services are also extended to parents and families.
Desired Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in education plus at least four years of experience in teaching science or related content area required. Demonstrated ability to provide effective educational services including the selection, training, demonstration, and coaching of science curriculum also required. Candidates must have or be eligible to obtain valid Iowa Teaching License with endorsement in science by time of appointment. Candidates must also be able to travel regularly within the State of Iowa; be able to use a computer, telephone, and other office equipment. Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree and experience in the physical sciences preferred.

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:
- One of the following current licenses from the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners:
- School Psychologist; or
- School Counseling; or
- Speech Language Pathologist.
- All of the following (a and b):
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in orientation and mobility; and
- Possession of a current Iowa Orientation and Mobility Specialist license.
- All of the following (a and b):
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in any field; and
- Possession of a current Iowa Teaching Certificate.
