The Education Program Consultant (Educator Preparation) will be an integral member of the Educator Preparation Team, providing technical assistance, monitoring and support for administrator and teacher preparation programs as well as practicing administrators and other leaders in districts and schools.

Your Responsibilities:
  • Work with the educator preparation team to receive, review, and evaluate program requests related to the approval of educator preparation programs. Provide specific expertise to the team related to administrator program approvals, and program approvals for other professional programs such as professional school counselor, speech-language pathologist, school psychologist, etc.
    • Includes preparing for site visits, conducting site visits, writing reports, and providing technical assistance to educator preparation programs.
  • Coordinate work related to evaluator training and implementation of leadership standards. Collaborate with stakeholders to regularly review and update resources related to the required training and approval process. Approve eligible evaluator training providers and update and distribute a list of those approved. Collaborate with other agencies to implement the evaluator training certification renewal program. Work with professional organizations, such as School Administrators of Iowa (SAI) to provide technical assistance and support to school districts to implement Iowa's Standards for School Leaders (ISSL).
  • Work with the educator preparation administrative consultant and bureau chief and other consultants to support department and division initiatives and to make recommendations to the director to facilitate progress in implementing and monitoring innovative educator preparation reform efforts. Monitor progress made toward the implementation of educator preparation reform recommendations.
  • Collaborate with, and support the educator preparation team in the collection and aggregation of data and preparation of reports.

Hours: 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday – Friday with opportunity for hybrid remote work schedule after initial training period; occasional in-state and out-of-state travel

A successful candidate will bring or have the ability and desire to learn:

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master’s Degree.
  • Experience working in an educational setting.
  • Experience providing technical assistance and professional learning to educators.
  • Experience implementing state or federal education law.

Selectives

713 Secondary or Higher Education
6 months' experience as a teacher/instructor, counselor, or administrator in a public or private secondary or higher education (college, university, or community college) setting which included:

  • Analyzing and assessing work and education history of students and applying it to career goals
  • Communicating with program participants of varying academic and vocational abilities.
  • Participating in school-to-work programs in both the public and private sector.
AND

160 Teaching/Training
6 months’ experience, 12 semester hours, or a combination of both in instructing students individually or in groups – this includes preparing materials, delivering material (i.e., lectures, presentations, demonstrations), keeping records of student progress and communicating progress to students.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

1) Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university and five years of full-time post-graduate work experience in any one or a combination of the following areas:

a. Professional training, teaching, or counseling experience in an educational setting;

b. Professional administrative experience in an educational setting;

c. Professional personnel administration including such areas as job analysis, performance appraisal systems, selection devices, or labor relations;

d. Professional finance, accounting, or auditing experience including the preparation or analysis of financial statements;

e. Professional experience in a major technical program area utilized by the Iowa Department of Education or Board of Educational Examiners.

2) A combination of a total of five years of post-graduate education and full-time experience (as described in number one), where twenty-four semester hours of accredited post-graduate college or university course work equals one year of full-time experience.

3) Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master’s degree, possession of a valid Iowa Teaching Certificate, and three academic years of teaching and/or administrative experience in PK-12 and/or a post-secondary educational institution.

4) Possession of a School Business Official Authorization from the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners and seven years of full-time professional experience in finance, accounting, or auditing, including the preparation or analysis of financial statements.
