This position is with the Bureau of Disease Control and Prevention, is supervisory, and will have a hybrid schedule. The incumbent in this role will audit, evaluate, and conduct as necessary, the public health investigations of all Disease Intervention Specialists (DIS) within their assigned area involving reportable sexually transmitted infections (STIs), Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and other infectious diseases as directed, to prevent further transmission of disease, achieve program objectives, and ensure compliance with program standards and guidelines established by the Disease Intervention Section and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following : Monitors, and conducts as necessary, investigations of higher complexity and / or of a controversial nature to assure adherence to administrative guidelines and that unusual, uncertain, or challenging circumstances are met with appropriate responses in keeping with program policies. Conducts and evaluates interviews of identified individuals to obtain information on their social, sexual, and / or needle-sharing partners. Monitors, elicits, and evaluates the analysis of local epidemiologic conditions (unmet service needs, shifting trends in risk factors or patient populations, chains of transmission, etc.) observed by DIS conducting investigations within their assigned area. Documents and reviews all relevant data and investigative documentation of DIS within their assigned area to ensure compliance with program investigative standards of timeliness, rigor, accuracy, and completeness. Travels frequently within the state, including occasional overnight stays, to conduct and evaluate fieldwork necessary for assigned investigations by locating and motivating persons infected or at risk of infection to seek medical examination and treatment, and by obtaining serologic or other specimens for laboratory testing. Conducts patient / client transportation when needed. Travel and fieldwork required of this position also includes temporary assignment to another part of the state during responses to infectious disease outbreaks enacted by KDHE.Conducts, directs, and evaluates the analysis and classification of Case Morbidity Records (CMRs) within their assigned area to assure that surveillance data is complete and accurate, and to ensure the delivery of appropriate medical care recommended by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and KDHE. Expected to carry a client / patient caseload similar to all DIS. Conducts, directs, and evaluates the analysis of investigative data to mitigate lost opportunities for intervention (cases and contacts not located, tested, or treated as necessary), and to ensure that all reasonable steps are taken by DIS to rigorously pursue desired health outcomes of investigations. Directs and monitors the local implementation of policies and procedures to ensure that work is performed in compliance with agency policies as well as state and federal laws regarding STIs and other infectious diseases, including HIV.Qualifications
- Education :
- Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Social Sciences, Biology, or other health-related field.
- Licensing & Certification :
- Valid Driver's License - Incumbent is required to have and maintain a valid driver's license when operating a state vehicle, a private vehicle, or a rental vehicle for the benefit of the State.
- Minimum Qualifications :
- Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Social Sciences, Biology, or other health-related field.
- One or more years of relevant work experience demonstrating the application of Knowledge, Skills and Abilities necessary for the position.
- Three or more years of experience in public health work related to disease prevention, health education, or investigation.
- Four or more years of other work experience providing client-centered service requiring advanced interpersonal skills and the ability to facilitate co-operation both among individuals and groups.
- Preferred Qualifications :

- Proofreading, editing, attention to detail.
- Knowledge of methods used to prevent and control the spread of communicable infections.
- Knowledge of and ability to apply the use of computers and mobile devices for the collection of data.
- Ability to communicate effectively with others, both orally an in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain favorable interpersonal relationships with diverse populations.
- Ability to collect, describe and analyze information to effectively solve problems, identify missing data.
- Ability to act effectively in response to uncertainty, new information, or changed circumstances.
