MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Three years of the required experience for the following minimum qualifications must have been at the managerial level or above with direct-line supervisory responsibility over two or more subordinates:
Six years of supervisory-level experience in a correctional institution, penal institution, or prison enterprises plus one of the following:
1. Six years of full-time experience in any field; or
2. A bachelor's degree.
OR
A master's degree plus five years of supervisory-level experience in a correctional institution, penal institution, or prison enterprises; OR
A doctorate plus four years of supervisory-level experience in a correctional institution, penal institution, or prison enterprises.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by State and Federal laws is granted.
In accordance with the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) (Part 115:17) of Title 28 of the Code of Federal Regulations an applicant who has been found to have engaged in any form of sexual abuse; engaged in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable or refused will be disqualified.
FUNCTION OF WORK:
To serve as chief administrator of a large, very complex adult correctional facility.
LEVEL OF WORK:
Administrator.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Administrative direction from Assistant Secretary or Chief of Operations of Adult Services.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Direct line over Correction Deputy Warden 4.
LOCATION OF WORK:
Department of Public Safety and Corrections, Corrections Services, Office of Adult Services.
JOB DISTINCTIONS:
Differs from Correction Deputy Warden 4 by responsibility for being the final authority in an assigned correctional facility.
Establishes policies and procedures subject to administrative guideline of the Secretary, Assistant Secretary, and Undersecretary.
Supervises and participates in institutional response to emergency situations including escapes and searches, inmate work stoppages, hostage negotiations, and other violent and nonviolent disorders.
Serves as an administrator over a special needs unit (i. e, mental health or substance abuse).
Serves as the administrator over the ARDC.
Monitors overall staff effectiveness in security, treatment, and administration.
Conducts periodic physical inspections of the facility and grounds.
Maintains written, verbal, and direct personal contact with DPSC executive staff, headquarters support staff, institutional staff, offenders, and families of offenders.
Reviews and acts upon reports, correspondence, and disciplinary actions.
Confers frequently with officials of local, state, and federal units of law enforcement including sheriffs, local police chiefs, district attorneys, and judges.
Confers frequently with attorneys representing offenders the Louisiana Attorney Generals Office, and Civil Service regarding both offender and employee legal suits and civil cases.
Represents the institution in its relationship with local elected officials, news media, and civil organizations.
Supervises preparation of and manages the annual operating budget for all institution operations subject to administrative requirements of the Office of the Undersecretary.
Coordinates industrial and farm programs with the Headquarters office of prison enterprises to insure maximum productivity and efficiency.
Responds on a 24-hour a day basis (either via telephone or personal contact) to significant unusual occurrences at the unit.
Meets with the Secretary, Assistant Secretary, and project architects to assist in the design of correctional facilities and the supervision of construction.
Supervises the assignment, maintenance, conditions, and other aspects of employee housing at the unit.
Salary : $8,048 - $16,290
