LOCATION OF POSITION

Main Purpose of Job

The position will serve several functions all of which are essential to the efficiency of the Motor Vehicle Division Installation of emergency equipment in patrol vehicles as well as specialized vehicles. The technician will install emergency lights, sirens, fire extinguishers, Stop Sticks, gun boxes and all associated wiring, wiring harnesses, hardware, software as well as the programming of the emergency equipment. The position will be responsible for receiving new vehicles from the dealerships, ensuring all required paperwork is present, all vehicle keys are included in the delivery, verifying the invoice and State of Maryland Purchase Order and inspecting the vehicle for damage or defects. The position will organize and maintain the new car lot and be accountable for the continuous inventory of vehicles awaiting upfit and deployment.

POSITION DUTIES

INSTALLATION OF EMERGENCY EQUIPMENT:� The employee will install emergency equipment in police vehicles to include all emergency lights. light bars on marked patrol cars, grill lights, visor lights, rear deck lights, strobes in existing headlamps and tail lamps, sirens, all associated wiring and wiring harnesses, hardware and software for the emergency control unit. It will also include the installation of any updated technology that will be used in both police patrol vehicles and specialty police vehicles. Position is also responsible for the affixing of reflective decals on marked police vehicles.� � REPAIRING EXISTING EMERGENCY EQUIPMENT:� The employee will be responsible to repair or replace faulty or damaged emergency equipment in existing Department vehicles.� � NEW VEHICLE DEPLOYMENT:� Cleaning and prepping new cars for deployment. This includes a hand wash and wipe as well as interior vacuum and wipe. It also includes ensuring stop sticks are supplied, fire extinguishers installed, registration is affixed to the vehicle, the EZ Pass transponder and fuel PROKEE are present and paperwork included� � LOT MANAGEMENT:� This position includes maintain organization of the new car lot. The technician will park all cars in the designated lanes and maintain the spreadsheet of what cars are in what lanes as well as maintain what the upfit status is for each of the cars on the new car lot. � Other duties as assigned by supervisory or Command personnel.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: 1. Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a State high school equivalency certificate. 2. Successful completion of a formal course in electronics theory, practice and equipment at a recognized school in electronics, radio, or television repair. Experience:� Three years of experience in electronic equipment, radio, or television repair. Notes:� 1. Applicants may substitute additional experience in electronic repair work or formal schooling in electronics, on a year for year basis, for up to two years of required high school education. 2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Electronics Mechanic classifications or Electronics Mechanic specialty codes in the Electronic Equipment Installation and Maintenance field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualifications. It is important that you include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications. � Preferred Qualifications: 1.�Knowledge and experience in automotive wiring and installation of electronic�components. 2.�Proficient in assembling and disassembling interior and exterior components, including lights, handles, panels, and other vehicle fixtures.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1.� Employees in this classification are subject to random substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulation 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs. �2.� In accordance with Section 2-204 (b) (6) of the Public Safety Article, candidates will be subject to an initial drug screening, a physical examination and a complete criminal background investigation to include a polygraph examination before permanent appointment can be made.� A criminal conviction may be grounds for rejection of the candidate.

SELECTION PROCESS

Only candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be considered for this classification. Therefore, it is essential that you provide complete and accurate information on your application. Successful candidates will be placed on the employment Eligible List categorized as BEST QUALIFIED, BETTER QUALIFIED and QUALIFIED and remain eligible for consideration for at least one year from the date of examination. The list will be used by the hiring manager to select employees.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

The examination will consist of a rating of your education, training and experience related to the requirements of the position. You may be required to complete a qualifications supplement, or the rating may be based on your application. Report all experience and education that is related to this position. Applicants may be given a physical examination and will be subject to an interview, background investigation, polygraph examination and substance abuse testing.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits. Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
