Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to provide professional input and assistance in formulating and reviewing health policy for the Prevention and Health Promotion Administration (PHPA), with a specific focus on maternal and child health and infectious disease epidemiology and outbreak response. This position will be responsible for conducting legislative analysis, preparing legislative proposals and assisting with the development and changes of regulations. This position will work on special projects as needed. This position will also perform the following tasks:

1. Providing support for the OSS Director and the PHPA’s Leadership Team through policy analysis, program coordination, document preparation, research and collaboration.

2. Conducting and supporting selected PHPA program projects as needed.

3. Assisting with and coordinating strategic planning activities in support of PHPA’s public health initiatives, primarily focused on maternal and child health and infectious disease epidemiology and outbreak response.

4. Representing PHPA’s in meetings and initiatives, and on task forces.

5. Providing technical assistance in support of the PHPA’s mission.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: One year of experience evaluating, analyzing, researching and developing health care services, policies and programs.

Note: Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master's degree in Health Sciences, Health Care Administration, Public Health, Public Policy or closely related field from an accredited college or university for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should possess the following:

1. Experience providing policy analysis, program coordination and support for public health programs.

2. Experience conducting and supporting selected programmatic projects.

3. Experience assisting with strategic planning activities.

4. Experience representing an administration at meetings, in initiatives and on task forces.

5. Experience providing additional support and technical assistance.

6. Experience providing support in the crafting of legislative reports and positions, regulations and other deliverables.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
