Preston St., Baltimore, MD 21201Main Purpose of JobThe Visual Communications Designer will play an integral role in the development of engaging and straightforward content that streamlines and visually conveys the work of the Maryland Department of Aging (MDOA) and the Longevity Ready Maryland plan. Collaborating with cross-departmental teams, the Visual Communications Designer will build a framework and execute the creation of content to simplify its messages across multiple channels including digital, traditional (e.g. print), social, display, and event-related materials. The Visual Communications Designer will play a crucial role in the Department's ability to convey its goals and agenda to members of the Maryland General Assembly and other key stakeholders. This position synthesizes aesthetics, story, and brand while ensuring alignment and cohesion across the work and mission of MDOA, the Administration, and other state agency partners.POSITION DUTIESCreate Visual Elements, Design Strategy, and Publicity Plans for MDOA ProgramsWork with the Communications team and MDOA staff to create awareness and enthusiasm for MDOA programs, projects, and events - with a special emphasis on Longevity Ready Maryland - using digital storytelling in a range of formats and within the MDOA branding guidelines.Support the implementation of the communications and publicity plan for the Longevity Ready Maryland initiative utilizing various communications channels (social media, advertising, newsletters, eBlasts, events, meetings, etc.) in close collaboration with and under the guidance of the MDOA Communications Director and Director of Planning.Coordinate the design, production, and printing of multi-page / multi-color publications including the multisector plan for aging and other reports and guidance documents to provide current planning information to the aging community, state agencies, the Governor's office, and the public.Work with the Communications Director and MDOA leadership team to visually synthesize the goals and agenda of MDOA and develop collateral materials across multiple platforms to share with members of the Maryland General Assembly, key stakeholders, and the general public.Provide digital web-compatible graphic elements, including video and animation, for use on the department's various Intranet, Internet sites / pages, social media, and other digital media.Determine and advise supervisor of feasibility and cost to produce quality products, including choosing a vendor and evaluating bids, and follow appropriate Maryland State procurement procedures.Work with the Communications team to ensure all materials related to MDOA (including promotional materials, online content, and in-person touchpoints) reflect our brand, voice, and engage the appropriate audiences.Data Dashboard design and developmentLead a team of designers, data managers, and experts with MDOA, the Department of Planning, and the Department of Health to develop the LRM Aging Data Dashboard and Longevity Index, an interactive tool to track the aging and longevity journey and experiences of Marylanders. Work with state agencies to gather and update data, as well as ensure the dashboard is accurate, accessible, and aligns with MDOA branding guidelines.Website design and updatingDesign web pages for Longevity Ready Maryland and other MDOA initiatives and programs in consultation with the MDOA team, using high quality artwork and graphic design tools and resources. Assist Office of Accessibility in ensuring MDOA website is ADA and 508 compliant.Perform other duties as assigned.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEducation : Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.Experience : Six years of administrative staff or professional work.Notes : 1. Candidates may substitute 30 college credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year up to four years of the required experience.2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and two years of experience in administrative staff or professional work for the required experience.3. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master's degree from an accredited college or university for the required experience.4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policy, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant to a higher ranking commissioned officer on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSTwo years experience creating marketing materials using Adobe InDesignExperience with branding and marketing related to older adults and aging mattersLIMITATIONS ON SELECTIONThis recruitment is limited to current employees of the Maryland Department of AgingLICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONSEmployees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle.
