What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Policy Executive 18 (Division Director / Captain) - ITB / Office of Highway Safety Planning position at State of Michigan?
This is a two-year, limited term position.
This position is open to both enlisted and civilian members.
Direct the design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of traffic safety programs instituted as a result of the National Highway Safety Act of 1966. Serve as Administrator of the Michigan Truck Safety Fund, Secondary Road Patrol, and Accident Prevention Program. Serve as the OHSP Director, the Governor’s Representative for Highway Safety for the State of Michigan, and the OHSP representative on the Governor’s Traffic Safety Advisory Commission, and the Michigan Truck Safety Commission. Direct the completion of a statewide highway safety plan to reduce traffic crashes, deaths, and injuries in accordance with the needs and objectives of the State of Michigan and the requirements of national standards. Direct the application for grants from the federal government and public and private sources. Administer both federal and state restricted fund grant programs to state departments, local units of government, and other organizations in accordance with rules, regulations, and procedures. Assist in the coordination of highway safety programs of state departments and agencies, local units of government, and private agencies. This position functions in a bias free manner.

The Michigan State Police (MSP) is a full-service policing agency with statewide jurisdiction, providing over 60 different services either directly to Michigan residents or in support of other law enforcement agencies. The MSP personnel most visible to the public are the uniform troopers whose primary responsibilities include traffic enforcement, crime prevention and investigation, and community engagement and service.
Possession of a bachelor's degree in any major.
Experience
Division Director / Open to all applicants: Two years of professional experience as a manager or program/staff specialist or equivalent experience.
Education level typically acquired through completion of high school and three years of safety and regulatory or law enforcement experience at the 14 level; or, two years of safety and regulatory or law enforcement supervisory experience at the 15 level, may be substituted for the education and experience requirements.
This position requires passing a pre-employment screening, including passing a drug screen, criminal history background check, and a fingerprint check by the Michigan State Police.
