About This Position
This position serves as deputy to the Chief Science Officer and core member of the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development’s (MDARD) scientific advisory/leadership team. In this role, this employee carries out administrative functions in support of the Chief Science Officer that include operational oversight and supervision of staff within the Office of Agricultural Science and Research; obtaining technical information to assist the Chief Scientist and MDARD director in policy development; assisting the Chief Scientist with evaluation of policies, procedures, and metrics; functioning on behalf of the Chief Scientist when that person is unavailable; working directly with science-based regulatory and non-regulatory programs department-wide; and attending meetings and conferences as directed. This position is required to follow established standard operating procedures and meet quality, quantity and timeliness standards for assigned work.

Required Education And Experience
Education
Possession of a bachelor's degree in any major.
Experience
Four years of professional experience, including two years equivalent to the experienced (P11) level or one year equivalent to the advanced (12) level.
Preferred Education: Possession of a master’s degree in any scientific field, with a preference for chemistry, biochemistry, environmental science, or toxicology.
Alternate Education And Experience
Education level typically acquired through completion of high school and two years of safety and regulatory or law enforcement experience at the 14 level; or, one year of safety and regulatory or law enforcement experience at the 15 level, may be substituted for the education and experience requirements.
