Minnesota Veterans Home – Minneapolis is seeking an advanced level accounting professional or supervisor to direct the activities of the Financial Management Department of the Minnesota Veterans Home-Minneapolis campus. Position will ensure budgeting, procurement of goods and services, revenue cycle management program, accounting and payroll functions are accomplished accurately and in a timely manner.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Direct professional, technical, and clerical staff in the delivery of accounting services.
- Establish and monitor internal controls that ensure purchases are within the guidelines of State purchasing procedures.
- Supervise the management of residents’ personal funds and assure collection of all appropriate maintenance charges while ensuring that all funds held in trust are properly safeguarded.
- Ensure all state and federal regulatory requirements are met relating to the business operations of the home.
- Establish and monitor internal controls to ensure payments are within the guidelines of State statutes and procedures.
- The incumbent is expected to be a positive role model, support leadership directives and decisions, and recognize that they are an ambassador and representative of the State and the MDVA.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications

Only applicants whose resumes clearly demonstrate fulfillment of each of these minimum qualifications will be considered for this position.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a closely related field, and three years of advanced professional level accounting or financial management experience (e.g. Accounting Officer Senior) in the areas described above; OR
Four years of advanced professional-level accounting or financial management experience (e.g. Accounting Officer Senior) in the areas described above; OR
Two years of supervisory or managerial accounting/financial management experience related to the essential duties of the position; OR
An equivalent combination of experience.
Applicants who meet one of the experience requirements listed above will be further assessed on the following:
- Experience providing leadwork/guidance.
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Practices (GAAP).
- Knowledge of State of Minnesota’s Statewide Integrated Financial Tools (SWIFT) system or other private or governmental accounting system.
- Ability to communicate well with all levels of management, staff and peers, residents, and others.
- Ability to present information formally and informally.
- Ability to solve complex problems relating to all types of financial matters.
Preferred Qualifications
Thorough knowledge of State accounting systems and operation policies and procedures.
Extensive knowledge of the State’s appropriation, budget, and accounting policies and systems.
Experience with the State of Minnesota accounting and payroll systems.
Experience with State’s Data Warehouse reporting system, SWIFT, SEMA4.
Supervisory experience in a union environment.

This position also requires successful completion of the following:
A Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) background check will be conducted on finalists for this position. Finalists must pass the DHS background check.
A Tuberculosis (Mantoux) screening (or chest x-ray) is required prior to employment.
