This position serves our partners at the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) within the Department of Public Safety (DPS). MNIT BCA provides comprehensive IT operations and support services, custom application development, and dedicated business-specific support functions for investigative and specialized law enforcement services. You will support an agency that partners with law enforcement, public safety, and criminal justice agencies to prevent and solve crimes.
Job Summary
This poistion will Information Technology and business support services for BCA / MNJIS (Bureau of Criminal Apprehension / Minnesota Justice Information Systems) systems to Criminal Justice Agencies throughout the State of Minnesota. Responsibilities include:
- MNJIS application software support and system and user administration for the State’s criminal justice backbone system
- Respond to questions regarding application functions and problems encountered.
- Translate between Criminal Justice perspective and technical perspective to better define issues.
- Coordinate incident resolution with technical and business staff
- Troubleshoot web-based client access to BCA / MNJIS applications
- Assist users with VPN setup and connectivity issues.
- Monitor and support local, state, and national system and network interfaces, including FBI NCIC, NLETS, CHS, DVS.
- Support for CJDN agencies accessing MNJIS applications distributed throughout the state: support software installs, troubleshoot and resolve client issues.
- Support BCA computer users with hardware, software and account issues.
After a six (6) month probationary period, you may be eligible to telework for up to three (3) days per week.
- Telework for Minnesota IT Services allows an employee to perform work from a remote telework location and an employee may be required to be in the office based on business needs and other dependencies.
- Candidates residing outside of Minnesota and bordering states (Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, or Wisconsin) require additional review prior to telework approval upon becoming a finalist.
- Candidates located in Minnesota, or a bordering state, do not require additional review.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must clearly demonstrate all of the following qualifications in their resume:
This position requires a minimum of one (1) year of IT application support, administration and troubleshooting.
Experience must include:
- Network troubleshooting.
- Troubleshooting web based applications.
- Enterprise experience managing and supporting external customers on the phone and via email.
A Bachelor’s or an Associate’s degree in Information Technology or a related field substitutes for one (1) year of experience.

- VPN connectivity experience.

- PC troubleshooting skills.
- Service desk software experience.
- Excellent customer service skills and communication skills.
