Job Summary

The position of Director of the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Relatives (MMIR) Office, within the Department of Public Safety Office of Justice Programs (DPS – OJP), is to oversee the work of dedicated employees to ending the epidemic of missing and murdered Indigenous Relatives through collaboration with Minnesota’s Tribal Nations, Bands, and Communities; federal, state, and local law enforcement; federal and state agencies; and community based organizations and advocates. This can be done through implementation of recommendations by task forces, advisory groups, research, case analysis, evaluation of programs, review of state policies and practices, and other inputs identified by the Director.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Four (4) years of coalition experience working with those impacted by violence, providing victim services and advocacy within criminal justice, public administration, social services or related field. A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school may substitute for one year of professional experience.

Experience must include the following:

  • Working with Tribal Nations and community programs
  • Demonstrated managerial and administrative skills sufficient for fiscal management, staff supervision, policy development, and external relationship management
  • Planning and communication skills sufficient to lead advisory groups; educate state agency staff and external stakeholders; draft policy and procedures; draft mandated reports and legislation
  • Demonstrated knowledge or experience related to the criminal justice process, crime victim issues, and key factors perpetuating violence against Indigenous communities
  • Computer proficiency
  • Ability to work cooperatively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and underserved communities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong relationships with Minnesota Tribal Nations and Bands.
  • Experience working on issues directly related to Missing and Murdered Indigenous Relatives.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of state systems and the legislative process

Physical Requirements

Requires occasionally moving and transporting such articles as file boxes and heavy hand tools or heavier materials with help from others, and moving and transporting light objects frequently. Even though the weights being moved and transported may be a negligible amount, a job in this category may require positioning self to move to a significant degree or may involve maintaining a stationary position for extended periods.
