Job Summary

The Minnesota Board of Pharmacy exists to promote, preserve, and protect the public health, safety, and welfare by fostering the safe distribution of pharmaceuticals and the provision of quality pharmaceutical care for the citizens of Minnesota.

Under the direction of the Associate Director for Enforcement or Executive Director of the Board of Pharmacy, this position provides executive, technical and administrative assistance including enforcement management activities, disciplinary coordination functions, as well as supporting the Board’s Complaint Review Panel (CRP) and the Committee on Professional Standards. Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate scheduling of CRP meetings, facilitate all communications, and prepare CRP meeting materials.
  • Draft and sent complaint related correspondence.
  • Prepare Notices of Conferences for service upon licensees, registrants, or legal counsel.
  • Prepare legal documents such as Stipulations, Counsel Orders, Agreements for Correction Action, Complaint Dismissals, etc.
  • Facilitate forward movement on all open complaints and coordinate tracking timely responses to subpoenas including follow up for delinquent responses.
  • Review and process notices from DHS related to substantiated maltreatment of a vulnerable adult, failure to make child-support payments, and other matters, by a licensee or registrant.
  • Assess and make necessary license or registration status changes.
  • Coordinate Health Professional Services Program referrals.
  • Manage data requests in accordance with Minnesota Government Data Practices Act.
  • Utilize ALIMS for tracking and managing jurisdictional complaints.
  • Perform other administrative support as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Completion of formal paralegal or legal assistant coursework from an accredited program which resulted in a program certificate, associate degree, bachelor's degree or post bachelor's degree; OR
  • Two years of experience as a paralegal, legal secretary or legal assistant in a legal setting.
  • Knowledge of court procedures, legal terminology, legal document formatting, and proper citation in order to properly draft and file legal documents.
  • Ability to handle a large volume of work while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in writing and verbally.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel and other application software such as Adobe products.
  • Strong organizational skills, sufficient to identify and address priorities.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience communicating with others orally and in writing regarding complex and sensitive or confidential matters.
  • Ability to provide explanation about legal concepts and the meaning/significance of various types of legal documentation.
  • Experience applying statutory and policy knowledge to jurisdictional complaints related to pharmaceuticals.
  • Knowledge of the use and interpretation of material sources, such as Minnesota Statutes, Minnesota Rules and practice manuals.
  • General knowledge of Administrative Procedure.
