Job Summary

The Department of Natural Resources is seeking to fill up to sixty (60) seasonal, on-call State Nursery Forest Nursery worker positions at the Minnesota State Forest Nursery (Badoura), which is located in a rural area near Akeley, Minnesota. These positions are intermittent, seasonal, and applicants must be available to work on call as needed during the expected season of April 1st through October 31st each year. Hours and days of work are weather dependent and will vary.

Responsibilities include:

  • Remove and separate seedlings from seedbeds.
  • Count and sort seedlings accurately and consistently in bundles depending on given instructions.
  • Identify acceptable seedling size grade and height grade standards and differentiate seedlings with top, shoot, and root damage for discard.
  • Remove weeds from seedbeds and designated areas.
  • Perform miscellaneous tasks including root pruning, packing, tying, boxing, labeling, etc.
  • Perform miscellaneous fieldwork tasks such as transporting seedlings directly from the field, weeding, planting, and seeding.
  • These positions provide manual labor necessary to maintain quality standards in production, handling, and shipment of tree seedlings and other vegetative materials.
  • Select positions may have driving responsibilities. For those positions candidates must have a valid unrestricted class D driver's license.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ability to comprehend and follow simple instructions
  • Ability to withstand exposure to adverse weather and/or environmental condition.
  • Basic arithmetic/counting skills

Additional Requirements

For positions that require driving responsibilities, an unrestricted Class D Driver’s license with a clear driving record is required.
