Job Description:
As NDA’s content writer, you would be responsible for helping share NDA’s story by taking what is happening in the agency and sharing the message with coworkers, other state agencies, stakeholders, the public and the media, in traditional and digital formats. Responsibilities include working with subject matter experts to produce press releases, social media posts, reports and editing the work of others.
A strong writing background is required, along with knowledge and experience in writing for digital platforms (social media, newsletters, etc.) Strong organizational, time management, and collaboration skills are critical and will serve this position well. An understanding of how stakeholders consume stories and news will aid the successful candidate. Familiarity with the agricultural industry is not required but would be beneficial.

Job Duties
- Draft technical press releases, stories and social media content related to projects, initiatives, and/or educational efforts managed by the NDA by collaborating with subject matter experts and key stakeholders.
- Develop strong written content to assist internal and external audiences in understanding the roles and responsibilities of NDA.
- Serve as an editor to others for writing pieces, presentations, newsletters, documents and external communications, etc.
- Structure internal and external documents to meet the agency’s goals, mission and branding.
- Find unique leads to develop impactful and engaging stories and content to promote NDA’s work, agency initiatives and campaigns for both external and internal audiences.
- Other duties as assigned within the scope of the classification
Requirements / Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Vocational/Technical diploma or Associates Degree in journalism, communications, marketing, public relations, graphic arts, digital media, videography, or related field and at least one year of experience in conducting public relations, information, or graphic art activities. Required experience may substitute for education on a year for year basis.
Preferred Qualifications: Background in content creation both standard and digital. Experience and proficiency with video/photo editing and digital media formats. General knowledge of agriculture. A great, can-do attitude and the willingness to be a team player.
Other: This position requires travel. As such, the incumbent must be able to present a valid driver’s license or another form of reliable transportation. Occasional overnight travel may be required. Regular and reliable attendance is required.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Clear knowledge of and strong ability to write in AP style with a clear, concise message.
- Strong understanding of grammar, punctuation and spelling and the ability to edit documents for clarity, tone and structure.
- Organized with a strong attention to detail and ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Reader, Illustrator, InDesign) and social media platforms (Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn and YouTube), Outlook, MailChimp, Buffer and Content Management (Drupal)
- Ability to multi-task and work independently with minimal supervision on a fast-paced team environment to meet deadlines and goals.
- Strong listening, written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to adapt and a willingness to learn and grow with the advancement of the digital content industry.
- Understanding of social media trends and the ability to come up with fresh and engaging ideas.
