Job Description:
This position is located at the Central Nebraska Veterans’ Home in Kearney, Nebraska. Under the guidance of the Health Information Manager, the Health Information Specialist participates in maintaining the Member’s clinical records in accordance with policies and procedures established for the Central Nebraska Veterans’ Home, the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), and Professional Practice Standards for long term care.
Hours are M-F, 8:30am-5:00pm
Job duties:
Facilitate and promote the high-quality content of clinical records in accordance with facility policy, appropriate regulations, and professional practice standards. Participate in Medicare billing functions to ensure maximizing reimbursement for the members and the facility. Participate in the management of health information, uphold the confidentiality of the clinical record information, and protect the Member’s right to privacy in the collection and disclosure of personally identifiable clinical and social information. This position will also assist the Manager of the Health Information Department in performing related functions to achieve the goals of the department.
Requirements/Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Coursework/training in administrative/office support functions, procedures, and methods including the operation of personal computers and office equipment; or areas related to the programs and functions of the employing agency. OR Experience in customer service or public contact; or applying criteria/regulations; and/or performing administrative/office/secretarial support work including use of personal computers and office equipment.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience with insurance and Medicare billing desired.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge: medical terminology, ICDIO, grammar, punctuation, and format.
Skills: Proficiency in use of keyboard, computer, and calculator. Basic math and appropriate lifting skills.
Ability to: Work from written and oral instructions with minimal supervision; work independently and exercise good judgement; adaptable to constant change; communicate effectively and relate to others in a professional manner; operate a copier and a fax machine. Maintain confidentiality of information.
