Job Description:
In this role, you will oversee the activities of the Transportation Department, including scheduling, maintenance, safety, purchasing, insurance, and reporting for all assigned vehicles and equipment.
Hours: 7:30am-4pm Monday-Friday with flexibility
Starting wage: $19.180/hour, plus an additional $3/hour for every hour worked! (Pay may be commensurate with education and/or experience, if within fiscal constraints and approved. )
As a Transportation Manager your job duties include, but are not limited to the following:
- Coordinate transportation and vehicle scheduling to various locations in the state to ensure proper vehicle usage and the safe delivery of people and goods.
- Ensure proper vehicle maintenance and safety on all assigned vehicles and equipment to meet maintenance schedules and agency standards and requirements.
- Requisition shop supplies and vehicle maintenance parts to ensure an adequate stock for timely maintenance and repairs.
- Develop and monitor the transportation department budget to ensure the adequate upkeep of vehicles and equipment and a cost effective operation.
- Coordinate in-service programs to instruct staff on the safety, function, and operation of vehicles and equipment to ensure their safe and proper use.
- Develop specifications for the acquisition of new vehicles and equipment and follows through on purchase approval to maintain an adequate fleet of transportation property.
- Supervise and evaluates the work of the transportation staff; recommends personnel actions related to selection, discipline, performance, leave, grievances, work schedules, and assignments.
- Complete reports, documents, correspondence, and transactions related to transportation functions and vehicle and equipment maintenance to meet state record-keeping and documentation requirements.
- Coordinate daily and special activity schedules for on campus vehicles.
- Transport Individuals to appointments as needed.
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements / Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications: High school education plus experience in automotive and heavy equipment mechanics; supervisory experience is desirable.
Other: A valid Nebraska Commercial Driver’s License is required. Candidates can obtain their Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within 6 months of employment.
Knowledge of: state laws and agency policies pertaining to the transportation of people and goods; state laws and agency policies pertaining to the acquisition, purchase, operation, upkeep, and repair of a variety of vehicles and equipment; state budget requirements and procedures. Transporting methods and vehicle scheduling; vehicle and equipment maintenance and repair; safe operation and proper function of a variety of vehicles and equipment; the tools, equipment, materials, and methods used in vehicle maintenance; safety procedures.
Ability to: exercise judgment in evaluating situations and in making decisions; assign and supervise the work of others; coordinates in-service programs; instruct others in safety procedures. Operate a variety of tools and mechanical equipment; understand and apply instructions and directives; communicate effectively.
Skill in: advanced mechanics. Managing a department; supervising and evaluating the work of others.
