Job Description:
DUTIES:
Primarily monitors incarcerated individuals through the facility video surveillance system. May also monitor potential threats through phone, mail, and electronic video visiting. Provides safety overwatch and engages with facility staff, on an as needed basis, for situational awareness or to respond to potential threats identified on surveillance cameras. Enforces facility rules and regulations governing the conduct of incarcerated individuals by documenting behavior, status and movement identified on the video surveillance cameras. Conducts and evaluates on-the-job training for newly assigned Video Surveillance Analysts. Operates and monitors computerized and/or electronically controlled video surveillance, communications and security equipment, to maintain controlled movement of incarcerated individuals, staff members, and the public. Works closely with the facility Intelligence team to determining priority of work effort as related to cases and tasks assigned. Gathers video intelligence for decision makers and intelligence team. Understands trends in culture and a variety of threat indicators that have the potential to affect the safety, security or good order of the facility. Has knowledge of street and prison/street gangs’ hierarchy, dress, and non-verbal communication signs. Recommends improvements to intelligence and security processes and procedures when appropriate. Must be willing and able to respond to any NDCS facility involved in and emergency response and/or resolution to support intelligence operations.
Requirements/Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: At least 18 years of age; high school education or equivalent; valid driver's license; and must be able to legally possess a firearm and ammunition.
Preferred Qualifications: Minimum of two years correctional experience. Experience working with video surveillance systems and communication equipment. Experience in identifying threats and trends in a correctional setting. Experience or knowledge of both street and prison gangs. Experience in assessing threat potential, gathering intelligence, communicating necessary responses of others in the threat environment in a correctional setting. Experience in documenting specific actions and contributing factors in response to threats or incidents.
Other: Must have a valid driver's license. Central Intelligence Unit (CIU) team members may be required to work after hours in support of facility emergencies or provide coverage at other facilities. Applicants accepting a job offer must pass the following pre-employment exams in this order: background and references checks, medical exam, and at a randomly announced time, pass a drug test. Once at the Staff Training Academy, must successfully complete the fully paid NE Corrections Training Program to include CPR, first aid, firearms, and self-defense tactics.
