The Position
Agriculturists perform a variety of inspections and enforcement duties related to regulated agricultural programs such as seed testing and seed certification, commercial pest control licensing, commercial nursery inspection and licensing, vertebrate pest control, noxious weeds, insect and plant disease quarantine surveys, and commercial feed and agricultural product grading.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.
The Nevada Department of Agriculture (NDA) Division of Plant Health and Compliance is seeking to fill the position of Agriculturist 4 in the Sparks office. The incumbent in this position will be responsible for overseeing the following programs: Nevada Produce Safety Education and Enforcement, Hemp, Export, Nursery, Specialty Crop Block Grant, Good Agriculture Practices, and Producer Certificate. The position will oversee, prepare, and report on federal grant activities. The position will manage grant and state budgets to ensure compliance with state and federal requirements. The incumbent will serve as a lead produce safety alliance trainer in providing produce safety education to growers. The position will review, interpret, and revise state regulations to align with industry and enforcement needs. To Qualify
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in agricultural science or related field and three years of journey level experience in a variety of plant industry programs such as seed certification, vertebrate pest control, licensing of pesticide applicators and pest control firms, and agricultural produce grading; OR two years of experience as an Agriculturist III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Notes Restricted use Pesticide Applicator's Certificate is required as an ongoing condition of employment for some positions in the series. Special Requirements A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items. This position requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview.
