Under close supervision of a higher-level technician or engineer, incumbents learn to perform technical engineering tasks at the entry level.
This position is in the Aggregates Lab and will prepare laboratory samples for testing and perform physical tests applicable to specific bituminous, aggregate, and soil samples. Calculate and record final test results. Calibrate, maintain, and clean laboratory testing equipment. This position requires the applicant to lift up to 100 lbs. from the floor to waist and from waist to shoulder. The applicant would be required to push carts that could weigh up to 1000 lbs. The position would require working with hazardous materials and chemicals. The position also requires the use of eye and hearing protection, as well as a dust mask. The applicant would be required to learn a variety of different test methods that need to be performed on bituminous/aggregate/soil materials.

To Qualify
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Qualifications
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Graduation from high school or equivalent education and one year of experience involving public contact; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Requirements This position requires a valid driver's license at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. This position requires applicants be at least 18 years of age upon hire. If selected, proof of being at least 18 years of age will be required. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview.
