The Position
Environmental Scientists perform program research, planning and development, permitting, compliance monitoring, inspections/enforcement, and technical support services in relation to air, water, waste, federal facilities, corrective action, mining, biology and other environmental programs.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
The Bureau of Sustainable Materials Management is recruiting for an Environmental Scientist 2 (underfill of Environmental Scientist 3). This position is in the Compliance and Enforcement Branch and will be responsible for compliance inspections and enforcement actions for solid and hazardous waste. As an inspector in the Compliance and Enforcement Branch, the candidate will research and develop/maintain monitoring and inspection programs to ensure compliance with all applicable federal and state regulations associated with the management of waste in Nevada. The candidate will be primarily responsible for conducting solid waste inspections of landfills, transfer facilities, public waste bin facilities, complaints, and ensuring compliance with solid waste regulations. ***THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE WITHOUT FURTHER NOTICE DEPENDING ON THE NUMBER OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the physical, natural resource or life sciences, engineering or closely related field and 18 months of professional environmental experience which involved environmental program research and planning; OR graduation from high school or equivalent and three and a half years of professional environmental experience as described above; OR 18 months of experience as an Environmental Scientist I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Requirements A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview.
