The Position
Positions allocated to this series perform complex mathematical and statistical analysis on public health databases by applying statistical theories and principles to determine cause and effect relationships.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This opening is for a Biostatistician 2 within the Division of Health Care Financing and Policy Data Analytics Unit in Carson City. The incumbent will support the statistical analysis of complex datasets related to children's mental and behavioral health in Nevada. Reporting to a Biostatistician 3, this role will assist with data linking for studies, preparing statistical reports, forecasts, and models, and contributing to the development of public-facing dashboards. The position will also aid in evaluating programs funded by Nevada Medicaid, including services for Severely Emotionally Disturbed and Seriously Mentally Ill youth. Key responsibilities include assisting with statistical analyses on children's mental and behavioral health data and preparing components of statistical reports, forecasts, and dashboards. The Biostatistician 2 will also support the assessment of Medicaid-funded mental and behavioral health programs, assist in presenting data in graphic, pictorial, and tabular formats, and help ensure compliance with federal and state reporting requirements. This position involves collaborating with various stakeholders to facilitate efficient data collection and contribute to data-driven policy decisions. In addition to these duties, the Biostatistician 2 will assist in analyzing behavioral health system-related data collected by the Department of Health and Human Services and other state agencies, including the preparation of ad hoc reports and dashboards. ***THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE WITHOUT FURTHER NOTICE DEPENDING ON THE NUMBER OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in statistics, mathematics or closely related field and one year of professional experience conducting statistical analysis including gathering and analyzing data from various sources using computer software; OR one year of experience as a Biostatistician I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Requirements
A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
