The Position
Positions allocated to this series perform complex mathematical and statistical analysis on public health databases by applying statistical theories and principles to determine cause and effect relationships.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.
This Biostatistician 3 position in the Department of Health and Human Services' Office of Analytics will support the Fund for a Resilient Nevada. The Fund for a Resilient Nevada was established in Nevada Revised Statutes and is specific to the state's portion of opioid litigation recoveries. This position will be responsible to analyze data to produce a variety of deliverables to support the Fund for a Resilient Nevada as required by NRS and particularly with the development of the legislatively mandated statewide needs assessment and statewide plan to identify priorities related to addressing opioid-related risk, harms and impacts. Additionally, this position will be responsible for supporting the program by compiling statistics, key metrics, performance and outcome measures, reports, and dashboards and completing various analytical projects as assigned. This position will also supervise a small team of analysts and will become a subject matter expert and technical lead responsible for all data-related activities associated with the program. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Master's degree from an accredited college or university in statistics, mathematics or closely related field and two years of professional experience in biostatistics linking data elements in a comprehensive data warehouse, monitoring data connection activities and preparing statistical reports based upon analysis of data; OR a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in statistics, mathematics or closely related field and three years of professional experience as described above; OR two years of experience as a Biostatistician II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Requirements

A valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.
