The Position
Maintenance Repair Specialists perform a variety of skilled work in two or more of the mechanical and construction trades in order to repair, construct, and/or maintain buildings, grounds and equipment.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
This opportunity is located at the Northern Nevada Correctional Center in Carson City, NV. The Maintenance Repair Specialist II is responsible to maintain, repair, and modify projects related to plumbing, carpentry, electrical, painting and equipment. Incumbents review blueprints and schematics; calculate load requirements; install switches, relays, circuit breaker panels, wiring, and fixtures. They will perform skilled carpentry work to include construction, maintenance, repair, and modification of facilities, fixtures, furniture and woodwork. Incumbents maintain, repair and modify plumbing systems and fixtures. Individuals maintain equipment; repair carburetors; overhaul automatic and standard transmissions; repair front and rear differentials and hydraulic systems. The Maintenance and Repair Specialist must be able to function as a lead worker for inmate crews on a regular basis and document inmate performance through completion of periodic performance reports. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Four years of progressively responsible experience under the supervision of journey level trades persons in two or more of the major building or mechanical trades and one year of journey level experience which included responsibility for performing a variety of repair and maintenance activities, laying out jobs and ordering materials; OR one year of journey level experience as a Maintenance Repair Specialist I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

Incumbents may be required to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays in addition to their normal work schedules.
Special Requirements
A valid driver's license is required at time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
