The New Mexico Department of Public Safety (DPS), Administrative Services Division (ASD) is seeking a committed and driven individual to serve in the Finance Bureau as an Accountant and Auditor-Operational. Why does the job exist?
This position processes a high volume of invoices, travel reimbursements, and operating transfers and works to ensure accurate and timely vouchering for supplier payments.
How does it get done?
Key responsibilities include the continuous audit and review of invoices, travel expenditures, supporting documentation, and account codes prior to entering associated payment vouchers and operating transfers into the SHARE Financial system. Work performed must be in compliance with the Department of Finance and Administration's (oversight agency) policies and procedures.
Who are the customers?
Work is performed for external vendors, department employees, and the Department of Finance and Administration (oversight agency).
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have the following :
- Experience in accounts payable, accounting or finance
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Experience with SHARE Financials
Minimum Qualification
Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, Auditing, or Business Administration and two (2) years directly related work experience in accounting, auditing, finance, and / or budgeting. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and / or direct
experience in this occupation totaling four (4) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Employment Requirements
Employment is subject to a pre-employment background investigation and fingerprinting in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules and regulations; and is conditional pending results. Continued employment is contingent upon remaining felony free, per Section 5.12.1.1 of the Criminal Justice Information Systems Security Policy.
In addition, the selected candidate must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a current Defensive Driving Certificate from the State of New Mexico; or pass and receive the Defensive Driving Certificate within six (6) months of date of hire.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in a fast-paced law enforcement office setting with exposure to armed personnel and confidential information. Extensive use of desktop / laptop computer with multiple visual / video display terminals (VDD. Extensive use of agency-issued cell phone. Sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required. Ability to operate multipurpose copier / scanner / fax machines. Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
