The Early Childhood Education and Care Department was established on July 1, 2020. The Department's aim is to create a more cohesive, equitable, and effective early childhood system in New Mexico. That means coordinating a continuum of programs from prenatal to five, and ensuring that families in every corner of the state can access the services they need.

Why does the job exist?
This position exists to provide administrative assistance and clerical support to the Early Childhood Education and Care Department (ECECD) Office of the Secretary. It involves supporting the Assistant Cabinet Secretary for Native American Early Education and Care and the Deputy Secretary. Additionally, this role serves as the constituent liaison for the agency, working closely with the Governor's Office and Division Directors to ensure timely and thorough responses to all inquiries.
How does it get done?
The position will be responsible preparing and processing documents, creating and/or maintaining record keeping systems, answering phones, answering emails, making scans and copies, and other various office administrative tasks. This position will also be responsible for the creation of internal purchase requests for items such as supplies, travel arrangements, or other purchases as needed. This position may also perform other financial or physical asset tracking duties as needed.

Minimum Qualification
Associate degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or Accounting and two (2) years of directly related job experience in the areas of office administration, budgeting, purchasing, finance, accounting, auditing, cash management, and/or contract management. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling four (4) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Pre-employment background investigation is required and is conditional pending results.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending, and reaching may be required. Direct client interaction and some travel may be required.
