Why does the job exist?
This position is responsible for managing the financial administrative tasks of the Solid Waste Bureau.
How does it get done?
- Ensure compliance with federal and state fiscal procedures, and policies
- Maintain budget and accounting records to ensure that state and federal funds are used and managed appropriately
- Develop and compile budget documentation and justifications to support budget requests
- Complete reconciliations and update budget projections with a high level of accuracy, within strict time constraints.
- Handle multiple tasks and requests from several people at once
- Work within the Statewide Human Resources Accounting and Reporting (SHARE) system
- Process timely payments to vendors by reviewing financial documents for accuracy and approvals
- Act as the fixed assets and vehicle / fleet coordinator, and any other financial and administrative roles as required.
- Assist with cost package assembly and required journal entry adjustments as well as budget development, submission, monitoring, and revenue tracking
- Interact with the designated Bureaus within the New Mexico Environment Department
- Work with outside vendors
- Provide support to the FSB Bureau Chief, SWB Bureau Chief, Program Managers, staff and other bureaus
- Report to and work with the Resource Protection Division Financial Manager

The ideal candidate will have experience in the following :
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration and two (2) years of experience in budget preparation, budget monitoring, governmental accounting and / or federal grant reporting. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.

Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course certificate as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual / Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required.
