Why does the job exist?
The Budget Analyst III position serves the New Mexico Environment Ground Water Quality Bureau by processing contract purchase orders, reviewing contracts, and tracking expenses to ensure that all charges are assigned to the funding source. Additionally, the analyst will be responsible for reconciling all grant transactions and helping to reconcile monthly expenses. Finally, this role involves assisting in managing and monitoring multiple funding sources.
How does it get done?
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration and two (2) years of experience in budget preparation, budget monitoring, governmental accounting, and/or federal grant reporting. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course certificate as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required.

- Review grant expenses
- Examine pending transactions to ensure there is sufficient funding
- Create and review reports using Excel
- Extract data from the SHARE Financial system and compile it into Excel reports
- Keep expense records updated and verify the receipt of revenue
- Assist the Bureau Financial Manager with fund management and reconciliation
- Assist with Federal report creation
- New Mexicans to protect and restore the environment
- Occasional contact with external Federal, State and Local regulatory bodies as well as contractors and environmental not for profit organizations
