The Early Childhood Education and Care Department was established on July 1, 2020. The Department's aim is to create a more cohesive, equitable, and effective early childhood system in New Mexico. That means coordinating a continuum of programs from prenatal to five and ensuring that families in every corner of the state can access the services they need.

Why does the job exist?
This position will assist with the Program Integrity and Accountability Bureau and its initiatives to provide quality assurance through internal audits. This position will work on special projects/assignments and assist with Case Reviews by reviewing childcare assistance cases in adherence with federal requirements regarding the tracking and reporting of case errors and improper authorizations for payment.
How does it get done?
This position is responsible for conducting weekly and monthly audits of payments for Child Care Assistance, as well as the Child and Adult Care Food and Summer Food Programs, using EPICS placements. It involves analyzing reports to identify potential duplicate payments or other errors and collaborating with Child Care staff to make corrections. The role includes reviewing childcare assistance cases to ensure compliance with federal requirements for tracking and reporting case errors and improper payment authorizations, utilizing knowledge of childcare assistance policies and procedures during the review process. The position also serves as a consultant to Child Care Services Bureau managers and supervisors, advising on childcare assistance policies related to audits and case reviews. In addition, the role includes making training recommendations to address common audit and case review errors, thereby improving service delivery and reducing improper payments.Key responsibilities include providing data on case errors by region to the Data Unit, Child Care Services Bureau Chief, Regional Operation Managers, and Child Care Assistance Supervisors. The individual in this role is expected to consistently comply with ECECD policies and code of conduct guidelines and stay informed of evolving policies, laws, regulations, and trends at the national, state, regional, and local levels.

Minimum Qualification
High School diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of experience as a social or community coordinator and/or social worker assistant. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling two (2) years may substitute for the required experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Pre-employment background investigation is required and is conditional pending results.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) Some sitting, standing, bending, and reaching may be required. Some travel may be required.
