The Early Childhood Education and Care Department was established on July 1, 2020. The Department's aim is to create a more cohesive, equitable, and effective early childhood system in New Mexico. That means coordinating a continuum of programs from prenatal to five and ensuring that families in every corner of the state can access the services they need.
Interviews will be conducted within two weeks of closing date.

Ensures compliance with the applicable State and Federal Regulations to protect the health, safety and development of the children of New Mexico.
How does it get done?
Compliance officers conduct on-site surveys to inspect and monitor child care facilities for adherence to federal and state regulations, identifying potential dangers to children or staff members. They ensure the health and safety of children in these facilities by interpreting and enforcing relevant regulations. These officers review and investigate complaints about both licensed and unlicensed facilities, maintaining up-to-date information on licensed child care providers in the agency database, including licenses, complaints, incidents, and related documentation, which affects provider payment amounts for childcare assistance recipients. Additionally, compliance officers may conduct workshops on child care licensing regulations and other pertinent topics. They also provide consultation, training, and technical assistance to childcare providers, staff, agencies, and the general public.

Private or public facilities and homes that offer child care, education, services, and supervision to New Mexico children for periods of less than 24 hours in a day.

Minimum Qualification
High School Diploma or Equivalency and two (2) years of experience in investigations, regulation, policy, statutory, and/or contract compliance. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling two (2) years may substitute for the required experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Pre-employment background investigation is required and is conditional pending results.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive phone and personal computer usage. Direct client interaction and some travel may be required.
