The New Mexico Medical Board (NMMB) is the state agency responsible for the regulation over 10,000 licensees including medical doctors (physicians), physician assistants, anesthesiologist assistants, genetic counselors, polysomnographic technologists, naturopaths and naprapaths.

This job exists to ensure the effective and lawful operation of the licensing process for medical professionals, with a focus on compliance, investigation, and support functions. The main responsibilities include coordinating the Impaired Physician Committee to monitor licensees' compliance with treatment programs, assisting the Executive Director with board-related activities, supporting the investigations of complaints against practitioners, and supervising the administrative staff. The role ensures adherence to legal standards, supports public health and safety, and maintains regulatory compliance across various acts and regulations.

Minimum Qualification
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and two (2) years of experience in investigations, regulation, policy, statutory, and/or contract compliance. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification within six (6) months of date of hire as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions
Work is usually performed in an office setting, with extensive exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT), personal computer, printer, calculator, copy machine, scanner, and telephone usage. Extensive travel will be required. Extended periods of sitting and some lifting may be required.

- Coordinate Impaired Physician Committee meetings and provide necessary documentation;
- Report on the status of licensees in the Monitored Treatment Program and Impaired Practitioner's Program;
- Contact licensees in violation of their treatment program or committee order and refer violations for further action;
- Ensure compliance with deadlines under the Uniform Licensing Act (ULA), Open Meetings Act (OMA), and Open Records Act (ORA);
- Coordinate board meeting agendas and prepare meeting materials;
- Draft bill analysis (FIRs) and statutes, rules, and regulations;
- Analyze and investigate complaints against medical practitioners;
- Prepare investigative reports and recommendations.
