This position is part of a team that manages public drinking water system compliance data and performs complex analysis of that data in accordance with the New Mexico Drinking Water Regulations and the Safe Drinking Water Act.

How does it get done?

  • Execute any tasks required to ensure the database accurately represents public water systems' compliance status and inventory, including decisions on data validity
  • Assist Safe Drinking Water Information System (SDWIS) Supervisor with developing, designing, and leading implementation of Drinking Water Bureau (DWB) data projects, including transition to

Drinking Water State-Federal-Tribal Information Exchange System (DW-SFTIES), or other projects as requested by SDWIS Supervisor

  • Develop and deliver accurate monthly monitoring reports to compliance staff
  • Accurately enter information received from compliance staff into SDWIS, including but not limited to Inventory Action Forms (IAFs), violations, and schedule changes
  • Perform research and reports development as requested by Data Supervisor, Public Water System Supervision (PWSS) Manager, or Bureau Chief
  • Who are the customers?

  • Occasional contact with external Federal, State and Local regulatory bodies as well as contractors and environmental not for profit organizations

    The ideal candidate will have experience in the following :

  • Using Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and Access
  • Interacting with various local, state, or federal agencies regarding compliance with environmental regulations
  • Having intermediate to advanced knowledge of the Safe Drinking Water Act and regulations for public water systems in New Mexico as well as the SDWIS Database
  • Minimum Qualification

    Bachelor's degree in Physical, Natural, or Environmental Science, Soil Science, or Engineering and five (5) years of work experience in public / environmental health, environmental science, Air Quality Management, Biology, Engineering, Chemistry, Geology, Hazardous Waste Management, Wildlife Management, and / or Water Resources. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and / or direct experience in this occupation totaling nine (9) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

  • Education and years of experience must be related to the purpose of the position.
  • If Minimum Qualification requires a specific number of "semester hours" in a field (e.g. 6 semester hours in Accounting), applicants MUST have those semester hours in order to meet the minimum qualifications. No substitutions apply for semester hours.
  • Employment Requirements

    Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course certificate as a condition of continued employment.

    Working Conditions

    Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual / Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required.
