The New Mexico Department of Health has locations throughout the state and provides healthcare to all New Mexicans through the Public Health, Epidemiology and Response, Scientific Lab, State Healthcare Facilities and Medical Cannabis. This position is within the Financial Accounting Bureau of the Administrative Supports Division. The Financial Accounting Bureau provides support to the other DOH divisions with Cash Management, Journal Entry Review, Payroll Reconciliation, Capital Asset Monitoring and other financial controls.
Why does the job exist?
Provide oversight of financial data and reporting for multiple programs and various funds. The position will also be responsible for the following: processing of rejected activity for the Department of Health payroll on a bi-weekly basis and to provide information for payroll reconciliations, monthly reconciliations of the trial balance for assigned departments, review of monthly trial balance reconciliations provided by assigned departments, preparing and/or reviewing journal entries, prepare supporting schedules and working papers for the Financial Statement Audit and ensure that they are made available to the external auditors to ensure a timely completion of the Department of Health's annual audit, and tracking of audit deliverables. And other work as needed by the Department.
How does it get done?
Review, analyze, and correct financial data and reporting of the general ledger, trial balance, and journal entries. Perform reconciliations for programs at DOH. Reconciliations will require the ability to download various queries, critically assess the activities posted to determine appropriateness, identify and analyze account balance variances to make correcting journal entries. Ensure that the programs and facilities are notified of general ledger corrections needed and given the opportunity to make the corrections themselves. The ability to prepare financial data into usable reports and then analysis of the information is a major component of this position. This position needs to provide feedback and corrections to assigned departments.

Minimum Qualification
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or Business Administration and five (5) years of directly related experience in budgeting, accounting, and/or auditing. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling nine (9) years may substitute for the required education and experience. For use at the State Investment Council only: any budgeting, accounting, and/or auditing experience is acceptable.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification within six (6) months of date of hire as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required. Some occasional travel is required for meetings and conferences.
