The Law Enforcement Records Bureau gathers, analyzes, and disseminates criminal justice data used by New Mexico law enforcement, criminal justice, corrections, courts, and civil agencies to ensure public safety. The bureau maintains complete and accurate records and responds to the needs of the public, law enforcement and criminal justice agencies providing support and customer engagement through our many applications, programs, and services to achieve the mission objectives.
Why does the job exist?
The Law Enforcement Records Specialist plays a vital role in supporting the operations of the Law Enforcement Records Bureau by managing and maintaining critical records. This position is responsible for organizing and safeguarding data, filing, performing accurate data entry, daily mail delivery, fingerprinting individuals for background checks, drafts and monitors Internal Purchase Request (IPR) Orders, receive and disburse purchase orders to vendors, processes Invoices for payment, and responding to public requests for reports.

Minimum Qualification
High School diploma or equivalent and three (3) months experience in office administration and/or customer service. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling three (3) months may substitute for the required experience.
Employment Requirements
Subject to a national fingerprint-based record checks prior to assignment. Continued employment is contingent upon remaining felony-free, per Section 5.9.1.1 of the Criminal Justice Information Systems Security Policy.
Working Conditions
Office setting, exposure to Visual Video Display terminal and extensive personal computer and telephone usage with extended periods of sitting. Must be able to lift and carry 30 lbs. Subject to a national fingerprint-based record checks prior to assignment. Continued employment is contingent upon remaining felony-free, per Section 5.9.1.1 of the Criminal Justice Information Systems Security Policy. Travel required.

- Records Management and Data Integrity (30%) -Maintain law enforcement records with accurate data entry, filing, and compliance. Apply NM statutes for data collection, processing, and quality control.
- Outreach and Stakeholder Engagement (30%) -Coordinate outreach, train stakeholders, collaborate with national organizations on missing persons cases, and manage statewide events.
- Administrative and Purchasing Support (25%) -Handle purchase orders, invoices, and vendor coordination to ensure timely transactions and bureau operations.
- Customer Service and Public Interaction (15%) -Process public requests, provide fingerprinting for background checks, and manage mail distribution.
