This position is in the Office of Injury and Violence Prevention, which is housed in the Injury and Behavioral Epidemiology Bureau of the New Mexico Department of Health. Currently, there are programs to prevent community violence, gun violence, childhood injuries, sexual violence, suicide, and older adult falls. This office also manages two surveillance systems : the National Violent Death Reporting System and the New Mexico Child Fatality Review. The Office of Injury & Violence Prevention presently has over 20 positions, housed in three units : the epidemiology unit, the injury prevention unit, and the violence prevention unit.
Why does the job exist?
The Injury Prevention Program Coordinator increases injury prevention infrastructure and capacity in New Mexico using a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) grant. This position works with violence and injury prevention professionals and partners throughout the state to assess and increase capacity to implement injury prevention programs. This position will be responsible for reporting to the CDC and will ensure timely completion of project deliverables. This position will provide training and technical assistance to partners and others involved in the implementation of the project. The chosen candidate will manage contracts and budgets related to the project. This position identifies best practices in injury prevention and provides leadership to statewide partners. The incumbent will participate on the New Mexico Injury Prevention Coalition and assist in convening and leading coalition steering committee meetings. The incumbent will be a member of the Office of Injury and Violence Prevention, will participate as an active part of the team and will provide support to office initiatives as needed.

Key responsibilities include increasing injury prevention infrastructure and capacity in New Mexico and overseeing the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Core State Injury Prevention Program grant with all associated duties for grant goals and objectives. These job duties are done through grant management, procurement processes, coordination of programs with other agencies, and working collaboratively to address public health issues on community wide levels.

Minimum Qualification
Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Guidance and Counseling, Education,
Sociology, Criminal Justice, Criminology, and / or Family Studies / Services and four (4) years of any combination of experience including working with communities, working on health or social service related matters, social work / case management experience, behavioral health, and / or health care. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related
field and / or direct experience in this occupation totaling eight (8) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification within six (6) months of date of hire as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions
The Injury Prevention Unit is an excellent team and we care deeply about the service and quality of our work. Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to computer / visual / video display terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and telephone usage. Work will be mostly self-directed and sometimes as part of a team. We are looking for someone who will join our team in supporting the health of New Mexicans.
