    The Information Technology Division (ITD) provides timely and cost-effective information technology services to the department, its programs, divisions, and offices. This support enables the department to fulfill the mission of the HCA in an efficient and responsive manner, and ensures the HCA gains full benefit from its current and future investments in technology.

    The IT Systems Administrator III - System Operations will :

  • Design, install, configure, optimize, and maintain integrity of highly complex information systems and;
  • Develop long-term strategic and capacity utilization plans.
  • How does it get done?

    The IT Systems Administrator III - System Operations is responsible for :

  • Designing, developing, installing, and maintaining information systems, utilities, and applications, ensuring they meet performance, security, and operational standards;
  • Leading large-scale computing projects, manage system configurations, perform capacity planning, and provide technical expertise in system administration and multi-system environments;
  • Establishing and implementing security strategies, policies, and procedures to safeguard systems and data, while applying knowledge of security trends and best practices;
  • Overseeing system emergency resolution and disaster recovery planning to minimize impact and ensure data integrity and business continuity;
  • Managing vendor relationships and evaluate tools for monitoring system and network efficiency, ensuring optimal performance and scalability and;
  • Coordinating long-term strategic planning for system development and integration, including setting hardware / software standards and developing plans to meet computing needs.

  • The Health Care Authority (HCA) staff, contractors, clients and other state agencies.
  • Ideal Candidate

    The ideal candidate has :

  • Experience with Windows Server OS, AWS, Azure / Entra, VMware, Active Directory, Group Policy, VPN configurations, PowerShell and / or other scripting tools;
  • Good customer service and communication skills, and the ability to teach others;
  • Knowledge of firewalls, load balancing, routing, and other networking concepts are a plus.
  • Minimum Qualification

    Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems (MIS), Information Technology, Engineering, or similar technical degree and four (4) years of experience in systems administration. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and / or direct experience in this occupation totaling eight (8) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

  • Education and years of experience must be related to the purpose of the position.
  • If Minimum Qualification requires a specific number of "semester hours" in a field (e.g. 6 semester hours in Accounting), applicants MUST have those semester hours in order to meet the minimum qualifications. No substitutions apply for semester hours.
  • Employment Requirements

    Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.

    Must obtain a Defensive Driving Certificate.

    Working Conditions

    Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual / Video Display terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some travel may be required. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. This position is required to respond to New Mexico Department of Health staff, and the New Mexico Department of Health Operation Center in an event of a disaster or emergency.

    Bargaining Unit Position

    This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement and all terms / conditions of that agreement apply and must be adhered to.

    Salary : $79,950 - $127,920
