The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) Traffic Safety Division exists under state statute to organize, plan, and conduct a statewide program of activities designed to prevent crashes and to reduce the incidence of Driving While Intoxicated (DWI). The Division partners with a variety of local and state partners to meet safety goals established on the Highway Safety Act of 1966. This act created the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) as one of our main partners.
The Traffic Safety Division receives federal and state funding, develops a Highway Safety Plan, and sets performance goals and identifies counter measures to reduce crashes and injuries.
Why does the job exist?
Under the direction of the Traffic Records Staff Manager, this position oversees and supervises the Crash and FARS (Fatal Analysis Reporting System) team of the Traffic Records Section.
The position ensures the crash data collection and analysis, which is critical to several federal and state agencies as well as the NMDOT for performance reporting is timely and accurate. Additionally, the Management Analyst Supervisor is responsible for providing crash statistics to internal and external customers. In conjunction with staff, the position is responsible for the timely processing of crash data and statistics used to qualify NMDOT for highway and traffic safety funding.
The FARS Program is monitored by NHTSA (National Highway Safety Administration) to meet all federal benchmarks for fatal crash reporting. The position also manages contracts to support the functions of the unit.
How does it get done?
The Management Analyst Supervisor must maintain high levels of confidentiality and supports and assist staff in the processing of early notifications and incoming mail. Responds to requests for the Inspection of Public Records Act (IPRA), crash data and other requests. Additional key responsibilities of this position will also include :
- Provide statistical reporting.
- Participate in the development of the Highway Safety Plan and Annual Report.
- Responsible for working with law enforcement agencies on timely submission of crash reports.
- Obtains NHTSA certification to become a non-coding supervisor who supports the analysts by shaping the internal processes, retrieving source documents for the analysts, monitoring time frames / deadlines, and identifying and eliminating challenges.
- Active involvement in the Traffic Records Coordinating Committee and participates in work groups and subcommittees involving crash data and analysis.
- As a supervisor of the Crash team, this position is responsible for evaluating staff performance and coordinating training and resources for staff.
- Provide reports to both internal and external customers ensuring that crash data requests are generated and submitted to requester(s) on a timely basis.
- Coordinate with other state agencies to continue receiving information needed to comply with the federal reporting systems.
- Attending all meetings, conferences, and training seminars regarding crash and traffic records initiatives as required by management and other duties as assigned.

Law enforcement agencies both state and city municipalities, New Mexico state government, NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration), FARS (Fatal Analysis Reporting System), FHWA (Federal Highway Association), grantees, sub-grantees, contractors, and miscellaneous suppliers.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have preferred experience in the following :
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and two (2) years of experience in the procedures of business and management principles involved in strategic planning. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and / or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course certificate as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual / Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive phone and personal computer usage. Direct client interaction and some travel may be required.
