Funding for this position is between a minimum of $21.86 and maximum of $23.62 an hour.

Interviews are anticipated to be conducted within 2 weeks of closing date.
Why does the job exist?

This position will be processing various transactions for drivers and vehicle owners of New Mexico, surrounding states and all drivers who have access to New Mexico Highways.
How does it get done?

This position will be responsible for the following job duties:

  • Process credentials: Noncommercial Driver's Licenses, Commercial Driver Licenses, Permits, Identification Cards, etc.
  • Title and register all qualified motor vehicles.
  • Preparation of Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) inspections.
  • Provide road tests and written tests.
  • Answer phones from the public and private entities.
  • Assist customers in all motor vehicle related transactions.
All staff members are expected to uphold excellence in customer service as Motor Vehicle offices are most often the citizen's first experience with state government in New Mexico. That stated, the motor vehicle agent's responsibility goes beyond customer service duties. Our agents are trained on complex transactions regarding issuance of federally compliant credentials, ownership documents of titles, reinstatement and suspension of credentials, and issuances of medical denials and concerns to names the most common transactions.

This requires understanding, interpretation, and implementation of federal law, state statutes and administrative code. Each transaction processed by our MVD Agents require extensive understanding of the parameters that allow to get the credential needed so that they can skillfully relay the information back to our customers.

This position will be expected to deliver quality work, collaboration with the Motor Vehicle Division (MVD) management, coworkers and the public in delivering quality transactions with proficiency and a sense of urgency.

Minimum Qualification

High school diploma or equivalent and six (6) months of general office, clerical, and/or administrative experience. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) months may substitute for the required experience.
Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification within six (6) months of date of hire as a condition of continued employment. Must be current with all tax reporting/payment. Employment is subject to post offer pre-employment criminal background check to include fingerprint checks and is conditional pending results.
Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage with extended periods of sitting. Some standing, bending and reaching may be required. Must be able to lift 25 lbs. Some travel may be required.
