This position is in the Injury and Behavioral Epidemiology Bureau of the New Mexico Department of Health's Center for Health Protection (CHP). The Injury and Behavioral Epidemiology Bureau consists of the office of injury prevention (including sexual violence prevention), substance use epidemiology section, overdose prevention section, alcohol-related harms prevention program, evaluation section, and survey section.
Why does the job exist?
The Overdose Prevention Section exists to reduce drug-related morbidity and mortality in New Mexico by instituting and supporting programs and policies which can be shown to be effective in reducing overdose among people who use prescription and/or illicit drugs. This position plays a major role in the successful planning and completion of evaluations which are used to assess program progress and allocate resources. This position includes supporting the development and implementation of evaluation and performance management plans for federal grants, conducting program and policy evaluations involving collection and analysis of qualitative and quantitative data from multiple sources, evaluating linkage to care for New Mexicans experiencing non-fatal overdoses, and sharing evaluation findings and recommendations with internal and external audiences.
How does it get done?
This position designs, develops, and maintains all aspects of assigned evaluation projects including fostering relationships with internal and external partners, collaboratively creating data gathering tools, data systems, and evaluation reports and other dissemination products. This position works closely with colleagues in the Evaluation Section, Overdose Prevention Section and Substance Use Epidemiology Section as well as staff at partner organizations to collect, analyze, interpret and report qualitative and quantitative results and share evaluation findings.

Minimum Qualification
Master's degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Sciences, Social Sciences, or Statistics and two (2) years in Public Health to include data analysis and linking methodology. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling eight (8) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Lifting up to twenty-five (25) pounds and some travel with the occasional overnight stay may be required.
