This position is in the Injury and Behavioral Epidemiology Bureau of the New Mexico Department of Health¿s Center for Health Protection (CHP). The Injury and Behavioral Epidemiology Bureau consists of the office of injury prevention (including sexual violence prevention), substance use epidemiology section, overdose prevention section, alcohol-related harms prevention program, and survey section.
Why does the job exist?
The purpose of this position is supporting existing and developing programs and policies which can be shown to be effective in reducing the incidence of sexual violence in New Mexico The incumbent will make use of the principles of program evaluation, prevention practice, public health theory and quality improvement practices to achieve this goal. The incumbent will participate as an active member of the sexual violence prevention team by contributing to prevention program planning, assisting in prevention partner capacity building and participating in policy development efforts. This position plays a major role in the successful planning and completion of evaluations which are used to assess program progress and allocate resources. This position includes supporting the development and implementation of evaluation and performance management plans for federal grants, conducting program and policy evaluations involving collection and analysis of qualitative and quantitative data from multiple sources, and sharing evaluation findings and recommendations with internal and external audiences.
How does it get done?
This position designs, develops, and maintains all aspects of assigned evaluation projects including relationships with partners, data gathering tools, data systems, and evaluation reports and products. This position works closely with colleagues in the Sexual Violence Prevention Program and Office of Injury Prevention as well as staff at partner organizations to collect, analyze, interpret and report qualitative and quantitative results related to overdose. To achieve this, the incumbent will need to establish relationships with the community partner organizations that are engaged in sexual violence prevention.

Minimum Qualification
Master's degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Science, Social Sciences or Statistics. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required education.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, stooping, bending, reaching and lifting up to twenty-five (25) pounds may be required. Some travel with the occasional overnight stay may be required.
